The trip was made without Clyde John and the first sone Charles John as they both stayed in the Tea Pot Dome oil fields to work for a while. 17 year old Clarance drove a lot of the way. The auto was so crammed full that little Earl rode on the running board until a Highway Patrolman stopped them and convinced them to make room inside for him.
