Raymond servd int the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for Western Propane Gas Co. and died when he fell 50 feet in a former missle silo which was used at one time to store liquid gas. He was lowered down the 68 foot deep silo in a sling to inspect for gas storage purposes. While being lifted out he fell off the sling. The sling was actually more of a loop in the end of a rope that Raymond was standing in. This silo was used to store liquid gas several months previous bu the porous wall had allowed it all to leak out. No one knows why he fell, but it is possible that Raymond was partially overcome by fumes in the silo, although no gas was found in his lungs. |
