Charles Jr., known as Nicky to his parents and family (later, his wife, Elaine called him Chuck to avoid confusion with all the “Nick’s”), was born and raised in Yuma, Arizona. He graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1950 and went off to College in Portales, NM, where he studied Engineering. After one year of school, he came home, married the girl next door from their years living at the power plant, Elaine Meyers, then they went to Portales, NM for school. After the birth of his son, they moved back to Yuma. In December 1954, Chuck and his family moved to Sacramento California where he was a highway bridge inspector for the State of California (December 20th was his first day on the job there). In January 1956, he moved to La Mesa California (San Diego area) and in 1957 to San Bernardino for a month. He bought his first house in Fontana, California (16470 Washington Drive). He went to work as a Bridge construction superintendent in 1962 (August) and moved his family to Las Vegas, NV where he built many of the bridges in Nevada and parts of California. In 1978 Chuck and Elaine moved to Elko, Nevada and in 1979, to Winnemucca, Nevada. While in Winnemucca, Chuck owned and operated a machine shop, a tire shop and a construction company building houses, commercial buildings and freeway bridges. Chuck moved his parents to Winnemucca to live with him in their last years. Chuck and Elaine helped found a Christian Church in Winnemucca, Winnemucca Christian Fellowship. In 1996, Chuck and Elaine moved to Littleton, Colorado and lived in the basement-converted apartment of their daughter. 32 In April 2009, Chuck moved with his daughter and her family to Liberty, MO. Chuck died in Liberty of complications from Parkinson’s and Lewy Bodies disease, leaving two children, four grandchildren and one great grandson.
